The interior design and signage rehabilitation of Hotel Valley View Encumeada, the only mountain hotel on Madeira Island, represented a project with targeted interventions. Situated within a natural setting of extraordinary scenic beauty, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the hotel combines history, authenticity and an exceptional geographical context.
The intervention included the redesign of the exterior and road signage, introducing a new concept in corten steel plates — a material that evokes the rustic yet elegant “rustic chic” character typical of a mountain hotel.
The interior spaces, namely the entrance hall, circulation areas and common zones, were renewed through the use of natural and rustic materials, complemented by a neutral palette of green and brown tones that enhance the sense of comfort and warmth offered to guests. Vegetation remains a central and structuring element of the rehabilitation concept, reinforcing the connection between the interior and the surrounding landscape.
The new signage in the access corridors to the rooms, crafted in solid wood, together with the custom-designed logos, reflects the hotel’s unique identity and atmosphere. The ensemble is further enriched by regional photographs by David Francisco, which sensitively capture the essence of Encumeada and the singular atmosphere of Madeira’s landscape.
