Moradia SAMA

SAMA House consists of the rehabilitation of an existing ruin located within the consolidated fabric of Funchal’s historic centre. The project adopts a distinctly contemporary architectural language while respecting the pre-existing structure and the surrounding urban context, characterised by confined boundaries and proximity to neighbouring buildings.

The proposed volumetry was carefully designed to maximise views over the sea and the city’s hills, enhancing the relationship with the landscape and solar orientation. The layout responds to the site’s constraints, promoting an intimate and sheltered living experience without compromising visual and spatial openness.

The presence of greenery is emphasised through two gardens — one at ground level and another on the rooftop — which reinforce environmental quality and the contemporary way of living, combining privacy, leisure and integration with nature.

The licensing process has been approved, and the technical specialities are currently under review.
